Profi gaming

In last few years is growing phenomenon of proffesional players who earn money for live by playing computer games. How it works? Who pays it? Lets think. They are playing. They are playing games on tournaments, and those who are good earn money by winning. Who pays those money and why? Its Game and hardware producing companies, who usually gives something as prize. Its good propaganda for them, because about big tournaments are talking many people. But who pays it? We, because its a form of advertising, and advertizing is allways paid by custommer. So when you see that XXX given something as prize to tournament, dont think they are great, think if i buy anything from them, i am paying part of that prize.

And money?

Who pays all those big teams of people who works year or more on one game? Yes, those who buy final product. But it is a little complicated. Some companies are selling their games for different prices all around world and they sell many copies, but some others dont see that to poor people they cant sell game for same price as to Americans or Europeans. And those loose because of people who has to copy their games for free. I have today a very good example: before 14 days i started to use program called Script ftp. It is tool made for automatization of ftp work. Pretty usable, but i will say, that experienced programmer will do it in day or two. I got suddenly message about registration. I looked on it, because i thought it is freeware. But i went to manufacturers (probably one man) page to look how much. And then screamed in shock, because this thing cost 40$. And then deleted it. For those money, it worth to me to learn how to made this ftp transactions i need from command line and then run it as script directly. If it cost 10-15 i will pay, but in this situation? Dont know how much people will do same thing, but i guess many.

Violence in games

Why is so many violent scenes in games lately? Why are little boys running around killing virtually each other? Why is violent game more successful than non violent? (with little exceptions) I will say, it is because our wolld is which is. What should boy (or girl) do, when they see violence in tv, when they hear about violence in radio, when they see violence in newspapers? I suggest first stop killing real people, before trying to stop killing virtually.

REdactors from PC.IGN have played first alpha version of new western action called Call of Juarez. Game is currently being prepared by Polish team Techland (tehy made Chrome) and should be finished next year. Single player game will be played from view of two guys. Ray of course think that Billy killed them, but billy is running away only because he wants to catch real murderer. Game will run on chrome engine, and have beautifull western cities. S.T.A.L.K.E.R. Shadow of Chernobyl.

Today we will look at why was delayed currently prepared action S.T.A.L.K.E.R.: Shadow of Chernobyl. It is already known that its game based on novel from strugacky brothers, which descripts Zone. Zone is place with twisted reality, where only experienced stalkers (people who are going there) have chance to survive. But delay is not because of story. Story of game is complete, but when authors played first version of game, they decided to made better design, better AI (Artificial Idiotism) debug and optimalization of its code. Now they have finished all except AI. They want other stalkers to act like real people. (lets hope it will be true) Unfortunately they dont know when will be the game finished, and also (of course) released.

Hru shazuje konzolové ovladání a nelicencované týmy a nelicencovaní hráči. Jinak se jedná o velmi pěkně graficky zpracovanou hru s celkem dobrou ovladetolností.

TES: Oblivion

I think that there are very few players who are not expecting new part in The Elder Scroll serie called Oblivion with hope. Lets shorten waiting by talking about it. It will be in same world as Morrowind, but when you are the only one who didnot played it, it wont miss you, because Oblivion has its own story. All is going about falling empire of Tamriel, when emperor has been killed by mysterious forces. There will start appearing demons, and guess who will have to take care about them. Yes, you!
There will be 21 skills in game, (7 battle, 7 magic and 7 stealth).
Into game engine is integrated physical havok engine.
NPCs have artificial iq, (not artificial senility hope) which allows them to act like living persons.
You will can rida a horse, npcs also, and they can steal your horse.
And arrows will act like real arrows, which means they wont fly throught stone, but throught wood they will.

Online Gaming 4

I said last time that some online games becoming to be in some thing as real as real reality is. It is based on psychological principe saying that everything in which believes many people is real, works like it was real. In WWII said German minister of propaganda, that thousend times repeated lie becomes to be truth. And so game in which believes many people is for them real. (Remember, there was affair somewhere in the east, where one player killed another because of the second stolen his equipment.) And because game world is to its player real, they can now also really work throught it. For example when you know how to obtain piece of equipment which is rare and wanted, you can get $$ for it. And also advanced characters are being sold for big prices. (even more than 1000$) Thinking where this came is not happy. I think that many science fiction forecasts where is said that humanity become so much addict on games, that forgotten to live and died out can be real in some time. Just hope that there will remain at least little group of people who wouldnt play and who will survive.

Online gaming 3

You now know how games throught internet works, and why. Now lets talk about programming games like those. In moment when internet became available, many game manufacturers become aware thet there can be big business there. So they started working on games that should be played continually by many people with many different ideas woh to gain money from them. First was simple: to made game, and to distribute it like normal singleplayer. You buy it in shop and all is ready to play. Second idea was to buy game, and also to pay $$ for playing. And third: get game for free and pay for play. And last is not to make rpg or fps, but strategy or logical games which can be played directly throught your browser, not installing any client. Those are very popular because of simplicity to play them. They usually have only small amounts of graphics, but many players, many interaction, you can pretty freely talk with creators.. But talk about graphical games. Talk about Everquest, Ultima online, Ragnarok online and others mmorpg (Massive Multiplayer Online Role Playing Game) They are now becoming really real. I should say, in some points of view much real than reality. but about it next time..

Online gaming 2

So, we talked lately why is now possible to make big online games, that it is because of mass spreading of internet. Lets talk more about it. Next problem was with servers, because when online (multiplayer) gaming wasnot commercial, many people wanted to play, but wery few do something for it, and to have dedicated server, where will run only that game was nearly impossible. Than few years ago started internet becoming available to more people. There were big problems with connection players together. Lines were slow. For example before ten years most of states were connected together with less than Mbit. So ideas of sending online graphical data were doomed. In that time were already known MUDs (Multi User Dungeon) which usually worked throught protocol telnet, and contained only text. They looked terribly, but many people played them. Like them, it was decided, that graphical online game must consist of server where all game effects were counted (attacks, defence, movement, npc reactions) where is send data from all Client computers where graphics are installed and on which you really sit and play. It works that client sends to server data like standing on grid 11,2 looking in direction 270 and running. Server gains those data from all players, and sends back reply data like on grid 11,3 is player 8 which just hit you for x lives. (server counted your and his movement, his attack and your defence, which result is you are hit for some damage..) To be continued...

Online gaming

Lately is becoming still more and more popular idea to play games online, with real people instead of preprogramed bots. It it lightly acceptable that friend can shot enemy better than artifically inteligent (dumb) piece of software. But why it is spreading online games now? Why not some years ago, or in future? Answer is simple: its because of internet becoming available in nearly all around the world. Until it, playing online was possible only as multiplayer through net, what effectively limited it to schools, scientifical nets, big companies and so. (You think scientists and professors dont play? With my friend we made remake of old tuneller, and he presented it to his professor as seminary work. Than followed question: What is it? Game. And what new is in it? It can be played through net. And ten minutes after this speech went friend home with best grade he can have from that work, and 8 professors were riding their tanks shooting themselves like madmen.) But those games usually can support only few (8 or 16 at most) people together, run without servers (one computer where game was running served as server) and have more technical shortages. To be continued..

Pacific Storm

Time of World War II is very inspiring for many people. Even half century over, there are still new documents, books, films and games about it. Lets talk today about Pacific Storm, currently developed by Lesta Studio, which is also inspired by WWII. What will be in this game? We will choose one side (USA or China)and will fight many air and naval battles in Pacific Ocean. PS will be combination of strategy and action. We will command many units, and when needed, sit directly into cockpit and show others how really warrior fight. There will be 20 historical battles (Midway, Gaudalcanal..) and gameworld will contain of 167 areas based on real maps.
